Day 5

We actually went out for dinner after yesterday’s post. The lady at the front desk warned us about going right out of the hotel and to stay left. What do you think we did? Yup, we went right! We found a whole New York style neighborhood with all kinds of restaurants and bars. Perfect! Of course at first it seemed a bit sketchy. We started out at a bar called Nekos which was actually really nice, very good old fashioned’s. We then went to eat at an African Restaurant called Im Herzen Afrikas. I guess we are already sick of Schnitzel. Excellent food and only a couple blocks away. We still have not found the elusive red light district. Something high on our list. After that we visited a speakeasy called Bar Chroma which happened to be 2 doors down from the restaurant. You have to knock on a random door and the guy sizes you up before letting you in. Then he locks the door!? We had a great time!

Today was a day of rest so our plans were to plot out the next week over breakfast. That’s when it went a little sideways because Lori has a hard time “winging” it, she is a planner. It seems that our expectations were a little off. After much discussion we settled on a plan. Berlin, Nuremberg, Dachau, Munich (Octoberfest), and Salzburg. After that is up in the air. We did buy a bulk train pass to save a little money. I’ll let you know how it goes.

After a relationship reset we opted for dinner. Lori picked a place about 1 mile walk from here. Here comes another 10k+ day of steps on our so called shut down day. That was short lived. We decided upon some local cuisine and chose sausage, kraut and potato’s which were awesome. For dessert we chose Hausgemachter Apfelstrudel (Homemade Apple Strudel). It was delish!!

We then went back to the French Festival in Germany to have some Raclette and wine. Forgetting that they were speaking French we tried to say Danke (thank you in German) and were corrected. Damn it! We then decided to go back to Nekos, on the “right side” of the hotel for an Old Fashioned. We were sat next to 2 young studs that were watching an MMA match on their phone. They were drinking Apple Wine (Cider for you Americans) and poured us a glass to share so we could experience it. We reciprocated and bought them some shots of Woodford Reserve. It turns out that one was 24 and the other was 19. Not acceptable in the US. They spoke pretty good English and were very nice. We decided to ask them directions to the Red Light District. Only because our friend Mark C. would have wanted us to. Lol! Well our new early generation friends told us where it was but then said that he would not advise older people to go there. I then asked which “older people” were you referring to? He laughed and said “my English is not so good”. Well his insult seemed ok. It was actually only 2 blocks away but because we heard that there was a lot of needle use we decided to pass. Sorry Mark. We didn’t think that an 8 ball would be a good idea before a 4hr train ride to Berlin.
